As condolences continue to pour in for fallen NRA bush war hero, Maj Gen Benon Biraaro, former army commander, Gen Gregory Mugisha Muntu has joined in, describing the deceased as a patriot.
Muntu praised Biraaro for resisting temptations of power unlike many of his rank-mates.
Gen Muntu, who now heads his own political party, the Alliance for National Transformation, says many decorated soldiers that fought in the NRA war had been consumed by greed and entitlement.
Yet, Gen Biraaro, he said, “stuck to the ideals we fought for and never bowed to what has completely derailed the cause for which we made significant sacrifices.”
“He did not succumb to greed and arrogance that have seen many loose bearing. He has passed on by God’s Grace before bowing to the sense of entitlement that many within our ranks who fought the Bush war succumbed to.”
Gen Biraaro who contested for President in the 2016 elections, succumbed to Colon cancer this morning.
He had undergone multiple operations and remained bedridden at home.
In his eulogy, Muntu said although was not often too critical in open public fora, he “boldly expressed his views to the powers that be on the most critical political and constitutional challenges of our time even when he was still in uniform.”
“Amidst the trials and temptations of this world and the pain he experienced he has passed on in at ease with himself and his God,” he said.
