The Premier League have strongly objected the proposals to drastically change the Champions League
UEFA are planning drastic changes as part of a proposed restructure of the Champions League set to be introduced in 2024.
According to Marca , the new 32-team tournament would feature relegation with eight of the sides being demoted to the Europa League for the following season.
The new plan is set to be presented by the governing body at a meeting in Monaco in August as they try to push through the plans.
It has been reported that the Premier League and La Liga strongly oppose the proposals, with Real Madrid and Barcelona the only two Spanish clubs out of nine European Club Association members in favour.
The format would consist of 32 teams divided into four groups of eight, giving 14 match days at the group stage.
The Champions League could be set for a major restructure in 2024.
The top four teams from each group would qualify for the last 16, with the bottom team from each group automatically relegated to the Europa League and the sixth and seventh team from each group taking part in a play-off to avoid relegation.
The proposals have been strongly criticised as a way of ring fencing the elite club competition and limiting the number of slots available to new entrants via domestic competitions.
